Daddy's Birthday

Today is Daddy's birthday and I gave him a surprise by ordering a cake for him which was delivered to our doorstep. It has been a long time since we celebrated each other's birthday with a cake so I guess this is a good surprise from his smile?
Actually, I have no idea what to get as a present. Daddy has been working hard on the house project and this is a good opportunity for me to give him a reward. He enjoys good dessert so I thought a cake would be good. We did enjoy the cake very much and so did K and W who happened to dropby on the way to KLIA.
Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Molars Again!

Sofia has been waking up in the middle of the night and seeking comfort from me for the past one week or so and we were wondering why until today.

I was giving her dinner when I asked her to give me a "hippo" mouth. She happily complied and before I slipped the spoonful of rice into her mouth, I saw her bottom second molars peeping back at me. Was it rice or her molars? I asked for "hippo" mouth again and yes, true enough, the second molars on the bottom are out! That was the answer!!

We were wondering all over the place, from the school to the second baby, scratching our heads why Sofia could not sleep well. Can she really sense the impending arrival of the baby?? Now we have the answer.

I think the top second molars will be making their way out soon. But this time I know I will look into her mouth for answer first!

Major Delay

Our roof truss is finally up today. This critical component of the house has caused some major delay to the rest of the plan. Initially we were not too keen to change the entire roof, our contractor did remove some of the worn out timber beams and original plan was to replace these beams only.

However, after giving it some thoughts, Daddy decided to change the entire roof and replace the supporting beams with metal ones which last longer and are termite-proof. The new roof will also be covered with clay tiles instead of concrete tiles which reduces the amount of heat into the house. So with this major change, we spent a great deal of effort looking for roof specialist, getting quotations, comparing materials, their installation proposal, etc..

This really set us back by a month on the project schedule but I think we feel better with a sturdy roof over our heads. Another consideration we forgot was the "resting" period for hardwood flooring. We were reminded over the weekend by one of the timber flooring installer that we must let the wood rest for 4 WEEKS after installation before sanding. OOPSSS!

I do not have much time let before the second one comes and it was our plan to move into the new place before delivery. Now it looks like we have to stay put at the current place, do all we can up till I pop and move during or after confinement.

Don't Shout!

We had a very interesting incident today.

Sofia took her nap today and we promised to bring her to the park at TTDI to see monkeys and tortoises. So dinner was all prepared early and everyone headed happily to the park. We dropped Daddy off at the new house as he had an appointment with the window supplier. Sofia had a good time at the park, went to chase a monkey and nearly got chased instead! Luckily that was only a good scare and she kept her distance after that.

We picked Daddy up after an hour and he was sharing some displeasure he had with one of the contractor. Sofia was in the back seat with Ana, busy gulping down water. Somehow, Daddy got so emotional and agitated while sharing the details with me that his voice was going louder and louder. Of course, the tone was not exactly pleasant by this time but we were not quarrelling. Daddy was simply expressing his displeasure.

Suddenly, we heard "Don't shout!" from the back. Daddy and I were bewildered. That was from Sofia! We were shocked because I did not teach her this phrase. We gathered that she must have learnt it from school when the teachers asked the kids not to shout at each other. Sofia is really good at giving us surprises these days.

Nap Time Woes

I am extremely envious of mummies who have kids that sleep without much fuss when it comes to naptime and bedtime.

Sofia has been fighting against her naptime recently and it could be a long long 1.5hrs battle with her before she dozes off. Naps are very important for toddlers this age as they are still very young and needs approximately 12 hours of sleep in total everyday. If Sofia does not nap, she will be very cranky and snappy by 5pm, feeding her dinner would take enormous efforts. She will then hit the bed early, by 7pm BUT the problem is she does not sleep through till 8am in the morning. She will wake up at some wee hours and ask for her sleep deprived Mummy, toss and turn, talk to herself, for two hours before dozing off again.

We have tried all sorts of ways and methods to encourage her to nap but none seems to work. Is this a growth spurt? We are not sure but hope this will be a passing phase and she will take naps like all other toddlers soon.

New Haircut

Sofia got a new hairstyle couple of days ago and it was all done by our domestic helper, Ana.

We think Sofia looks absolutely like a China doll now.

The Search is on again ...

Just received a notice today from Sofia's school today, Pat's Schoolhouse would be wrapping things up by end of this month and Children's House would take over wef 01 April. The search is on again for a school for Sofia.

We actually do have the option of continuing with Children's House but personally we feel that their school fees is rather steep.

There will be another operator taking over the other Pat's Schoolhouse branch at Damansara Utama and we are interested to know more about them. In the meantime, we have also started visiting other schools in the vicinity but many of them are already running at full capacity during this time of the year.

Wish us luck.
