3D2N Getaway
I am off to KL today to spend the weekend with Sam. To be honest, in my entire lifetime, I have only gone to West Malaysia a couple of times for holidays. Perhaps the Singapore media is to blame? They seem to paint such a terrible picture on the public security in West Malaysia that it deter me from going if all possible.
But after staying in Kuching for the last 5 years and being able to speak and understand a bit of Bahasa, I gather all my courage and left for KL alone. All went pretty well, just that subconsciously, I would hold my handbag tighter than usual and open my eyes bigger than usual ... just in case. We stayed at One World Hotel @ One Utama and Daddy gave me a treat at the Japanese restaurant for a start.
We spent Saturday at The Curve, where Ikea is and I truly like that place. Furthermore, there is a huge Cold Storage (my fav supermarket) there ... hmmm ... I am beginning to look forward to moving to KL! Ikea was huge too and we had a good time selecting the furnitures we want for our rented place in KL. We have purposely rented an empty condo so that we get to select our own furniture. heehee. Also, we plan to put in minimal furniture so that Sofia would have plenty of space to play and minimize accidents around the house.
We went to PJ church on Sunday morning. This place brings back lots of memories for Daddy cos he did his transition year in Sunway college before heading down to Adelaide for his undergraduate studies. To me these are all new places and I am full of curiousityto find out more!! We spent Saturday afternoon back in the hotel to catch up on sleep. I have been deprived of sleep recently since Sofia was down with stomach flu. *Sigh*
It was a very short weekend in KL, think I will be back much more often in the next few months, this place is certainly much more interesting than Kuching!!

Stomach Flu (Day Six)
Daddy came back last nite to spend the weekend in Kuching. To his dismay, Sofia does not recognise him anymore after 3 weeks ... that sent Daddy to his room, brawling his eyes out. Haha.
Not just that, Mr Diarrhoea was still hanging around and Sofia was whining (in pain I think) since early morning. It was only after a "release" at 9+am and she managed to smile a little. We decided to call Dr Kok, another PD for advice. He recommends us to try giving Sofia lactose-free milk for the time being as her intestines might be lactose intolerant after the viral attack. If that does not work, try to give her probiotics (powder form) to help her body fight the tough battle.

As Sofia is on Similac, we immediately went to buy a bottle of Isomil which is also from Abbott to let her try.
Guess what? It works!
To our delight, Mr Diarrhoea was sent out of the door immediately, phew phew phew!!! *cold sweat*
We were so glad to see Sofia almost back to normal by late afternoon, though she was still drinking and eating very little. It pains us so much to see her suffering and losing so much weight ... hope she will be back to her usual fit and robust self soon!

Stomach Flu (Day Three)
We thought we could wave "bye-bye" to this stomach flu episode today as the vomitting has more or less ceased but then ... DIARRHOREA visited Sofia this morning and launch an attack on her! Started early in the morning and followed by another 3 times in the day. Worried, my in-laws edged me to bring her to Dr Lim again ...
We went back to Dr Lim again late afternoon and he says it is normal. This is for the intestines to get rid of the virus and putting a stop to it is not a good idea. We were prescribed some rehydration salt and told again to keep her hydrated as much as possible. Sofia was already a bit dehydrated and if her condition worsen, she will have to be hospitalized and put on the drip. I cringed at the idea and almost immediately thousands of thoughts ran through my mind on how to make her drink as much as possible.
The only way is to give her crackers. For that one small little cracker she eats, she can easily drink 150ml of water. She just enjoy drinking lots of water while eating cracker. Once home, we took every opportunity to give her cracker as a bait to make her drink water. Hope Mr Diarrhoea will make his exit soon.
Can someone pass me the vaccination for stomach flu please??

Stomach Flu - Day One
Just as I thought Sofia has fully recovered from her cold last night when we were having so much fun, she started throwing up water while sleeping last night. It was really scary to see her stomach deflat suddenly and back then she will throw up water. I had absolutely no idea what was going on ... She continued to throw up her milk after her morning feed and that was when we got really scared.
I brought her to Dr Lim again and he diagnosed her condition has "Viral Gastroenteritis" or commonly known as stomach flu. Infants, babies, toddlers, kids are very susceptible to such viral attacks and may take up to 1-2 weeks to fully recover. We went home with some anti-vomiting medicine and was told to keep her hydrated as much as possible, hopefully this will help to keep the food down.
As much as I enjoy admiring the pretty merlion back home, I do not derive any joy at all watching Sofia doing the same. You can tell she hates it and do not understand why this is happening. It makes her hungry and weak and makes us worried. For the first time, I call home every hour from work just to check how she is. Should I be a full time mum?

1st Birthday!
110107 - Sofia turned 1 today. That was fast. It seems like yesterday when I was just doing confinement and changing soiled diapers and feeding her milk was my full time job. Now I start to comprehend why lotsa parents say time flies when you have a kid.
The Sofia that sits beside me now is full of character ...
I can no longer pacify her with the pacifier, she prefers her thumbs.
I can no longer insist she stay in the room, she will crawl away on her own.
I can no longer trick her into finishing her cereal before fruit is served, she knows fruit is nearby.
I can no longer hide from her, she knows how to play hide-n-seek.
I have to keep the house really clean, she enjoys picking up dead insects on the floor.
I have to keep my eyes on her most of the time, chasing after FeFe is now her fav pastime.
I have to be careful when lying down beside her, she likes to dig my nose and put her finger in my mouth!
I have to come out with new receipes for her meals, she gets tired of eating the same stuff after a few days.
I have to be disciplined and show her flashcards daily, she loves doing this flashcard thingy.
We find it hard to imagine our lives without Sofia now. It was just so different when we first got married, having a kid was the last thing on our minds! That is why we only had Sofia after married for six years. Thinking back, perhaps having a baby should be the first thing on our minds, so much time wasted!

Sick Leave
Oops! Sofia came down with running nose and cough today. *very sian*
We don't like it when she is sick, she has diffculty sleeping (block nose), drinking milk and no appetite to eat her porridge. She ends up being very grouchy and moody.
Brought her to see Dr Lim in the afternoon and was given some cold syrup and to monitor her in case she gets a fever ... hope Sofia gets well soon!
