Whenever we go to the playground or Sunday school in church, I try to teach Sofia the difference between 哥哥,姐姐,弟弟 and 妹妹. I am suppose to speak and teach her English while Daddy is the Mandarin guy, but "sister" and "brother" in English does not differentiate the age difference. So I broke the rule and taught her these few words in Mandarin.
She can say 姐姐,弟弟 and 妹妹 quite clearly now and my mum had this interesting conversation with Sofia few days ago:
婆婆 : 小宣, 你要妹妹还是弟弟?
小宣 : 妹妹!
婆婆 : 小宣, 不如我们来个弟弟好吗? 你要妹妹还是弟弟?
小宣 : 妹妹!
婆婆 : 可是弟弟也不错哦, 你要妹妹还是弟弟?
小宣 : 弟弟!
This time round, my mum is happy and satisfied. To us, it does not matter, what is most important is the pregnancy is smooth and baby is healthy.
